LEED-certified green building hits 12,000 commercial projects
The United States Green Building Council has recently announced the 12,000th commercial project to earn LEED certification. Ever since launching in 2000, LEED certification has helped builders and homeowners revamp their properties to make them more eco-friendly, and 12,000 is certainly a large milestone for the project to have reached.
"Twelve years after the first 12 projects earned LEED certification, the green building community has reached a significant milestone," said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and Founding Chair of the USGBC. "The momentum for green buildings is rippling around the globe, enhancing the built environment for generations to come."
There are currently more than 130,000 properties with LEED certification, ranging from private homes to large corporate complexes. Hopefully the program will continue to spur individuals and groups alike to continue to find ways to improve their carbon footprint by using sustainable wholesale hardwood flooring and unique cleaning solutions. As we continue to improve our environmental impact, LEED certification helps recognize those who have made special progress toward the goal.
